Conducting Business with the Amish

Some English Amish product dealers have experience with Amish wares, while others simply set up shop and move Amish products en masse in retail outlets or on the web. What makes me different is that I have four years of experience building and running a successful steel locker internet distributorship. Logistics is a very important aspect of this industry. What good is a high quality product if it arrives damaged? Over the years I've been through the wringer with numerous freight companies and understand how to navigate their world, shopping for low freight rates while balancing the need for quality and dependable service. Not all freight companies are created equal. Our clients are free to use their own carriers, though we believe our rates to be very competitive and we'll also assume the liability for the product arriving in the shape they left the Amish woodshop in. We'll also step you though the process of correctly receiving the product to cover both you and Amish Lockers.

When Amish Lockers receives a quote request--by phone or e-mail--I have two choices. I can take the hour drive from Pittsburgh to New Wilmington or I can transmit the request electronically to an English liaison who then delivers the request to one of our wood locker craftsmen. This individual then transmits the Amish quote back to me and I can then send a thorough quotation to the client, including elevated line drawings, a breakdown of all components (including grades of wood) and a freight rate good usually for 30 days. The client then decides whether to buy them or not. I may send a routine follow-up e-mail or make a couple calls, but besides that I do not pester anyone. I don't like being pressured, and I assume you don't either.

More than a few times I've made the drive rather than utilize my English contact. If you've ever been through Lawrence County--especially New Wilmington and Volant--you'd understand why I see this as an opportunity and not a chore. I also like the Amish I deal with and prefer to do as much business as possible face-to-face.
